THE WEEKEND

Easter week on the Costa Brava belongs to youth football. MIC Football reaches its 25th edition in 2027, and for six days more than three hundred teams from over forty countries play close to nine hundred matches on pitches spread along the coast between Lloret de Mar and Roses — with the finals in the stadiums at Palamós and Figueres.

This is the tournament the big academies come to. Sides from the top English, Spanish, German and Italian clubs play in the same categories as touring grassroots clubs, and the draw does not separate them: a U14 group can put your club against a professional academy on the Wednesday and a side from South America on the Thursday. Every team plays three group matches, then goes into either the final phase or the consolation bracket, so nobody is done after two games. A dedicated inclusive division runs alongside for players with disabilities.

The week has a shape to it. Teams arrive on the Tuesday and pick up the official tournament shirt in their welcome pack, the opening ceremony fills the stadium in Figueres on the Wednesday morning, group games run through Thursday, the knockouts on Friday, and the finals take over the weekend. Each category is based in one of the coast towns, so your matches are played around where you are staying rather than across half of Catalonia.

Around the football there is the Costa Brava itself — beaches at the end of the road, Girona twenty minutes inland, and Barcelona an easy day trip. We handle the entry, the beds and every transfer once you land, so the club turns up and plays.

STADIUMS & HERITAGE

STADIUMS & FOOTBALL HERITAGE

Build a stadium tour, a museum visit or match tickets into your stay, on the days that work.

Camp Nou tour and museum
  • Camp Nou tour and museum

A day trip down the coast to Barcelona's stadium — the museum with the trophies and the shirts, then the walk out through the tunnel to the pitchside where the squad can stand where the teams line up. It is the one afternoon every player on the tour has already asked about, so it earns its place on the itinerary early.

  • Girona FC matchday at Montilivi

Girona's ground sits twenty minutes inland from the coast, and when the fixture list lines up the squad takes in a full La Liga match from the stands — a compact stadium where the noise carries and the football is close. Kick-off times move with the broadcaster, so Revel confirms this once the fixture is fixed and builds the day around it.

TRAIN WITH THE PROS

TRAIN WITH THE PROS

Extra football on top of the tournament, run by coaches who work in the professional game.

  • Session with a local Catalan club

Revel arranges a training session with a grassroots club on the coast, so the squad trains alongside players who grew up in the Catalan game — short passing, quick movement, keeping the ball on the floor. A different accent on the football before the tour moves on, and usually the session the coaches talk about most.

DAYS OUT

DAYS OUT

A free morning or afternoon can easily carry a day out, built into your itinerary.

Dalí Theatre-Museum, Figueres
  • Barcelona city day

A full day in Barcelona by coach — the Sagrada Família, a walk down Las Ramblas to the harbour, and time on the beachfront at Barceloneta before the drive back up the coast. Revel keeps the group together with a fixed meeting point and a set timetable, so coaches get a proper day out without herding forty players round a city.

  • Camí de Ronda coast walk

The old coastguards' path that runs along the cliffs between the coves — from Palamós round to Calella de Palafrugell is the classic stretch, with pine woods, hidden beaches and the sea on one side the whole way. A recovery-day walk that doubles as the best scenery on the tour, finished with an ice cream on the front.

  • Dalí Theatre-Museum, Figueres

Half an hour up the road in Figueres, the museum Salvador Dalí built for himself — the eggs on the roof, the courtyard with the car, and rooms that reward a squad that thinks museums are boring. It is an easy morning that sends a group home with something to talk about beyond the football.

  • Girona old town walk

A walk through Girona's old quarter — the coloured houses along the river, the cathedral steps, and a full circuit of the medieval walls with the city laid out below. It is compact enough to do in a couple of hours, and coaches tend to pair it with the matchday at Montilivi for a full Girona day.

  • Karting at Lloret de Mar

An outdoor kart circuit a few minutes from the Lloret hotels, run as a squad race with heats and a final — the reliable evening activity when the football is done and the players still have energy to burn. Open year-round, so it works for an Easter tour as well as a summer one.

  • Tossa de Mar old town and beach

A walled medieval town sitting right on the sand, with the castle walls to walk along, the lighthouse at the top and a sweep of beach below. Squads use it for a half-day off — the walk up for the view and the photo, then the beach for a game of football or a swim if the weather is on side.

THE FORMAT

HOW THE FOOTBALL
WORKS

The tournament runs eight boys' categories from U12 to U19 and a girls' category at U16. Everything is eleven-a-side apart from U12B, which plays seven-a-side — so a club with a younger squad can choose the format that suits them at U12. There is no U17: the categories step from U16 to U18.

Every team plays three group matches, then the group table sends it into either the final phase — knockouts through to a final in the stadium at Palamós or Figueres — or the consolation phase, so the week does not end early for anyone. Categories are set by birth year rather than school year, and the tournament publishes a short list of exceptions each edition — check both against your squad before you enter.
