THE TRIP
The Hageland Cup runs over the weekend of Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 May 2027, in the Kempen — the flat, wooded stretch of Antwerp province between the city and the Dutch border. It is a two-day tournament for boys and girls, and it draws an international field.
Matches are played across three grounds — Tongerlo, Meerhout and Laakdal — which sit within about twenty-five minutes of each other. Which ground your teams are drawn at is confirmed closer to the weekend, so transport is not something you can leave to chance. Revel runs it: coaches between where you are staying and whichever ground you are playing at, both days.
Saturday is the group stage, with each team playing three matches in its pool. Sunday splits the field into brackets — pool winners into the trophy rounds, everyone else into a consolation bracket — so no squad finishes its tournament on Saturday night. Eleven-a-side games run thirty minutes; the small-sided games run twenty.
The age groups run from Under-8 up to Under-17 on the boys' side, and there are girls' categories at Under-13 and Under-16. Formats step down with age, from eleven-a-side at the top to five-a-side for the youngest. Every player takes home a memento whatever the result, and the prizes are handed out on the Sunday.
Getting there is straightforward. Calais to the grounds is about two and a half hours by coach and Brussels Airport is about forty-five minutes away, so UK clubs usually drive and Irish clubs usually fly. Either way Revel handles the beds, the entry, the transfers and puts a rep with the group for the weekend.

KRC Genk — Cegeka Arena and GoalMine
A longer visit at Genk covering the lounges, the press room, the dugouts at pitchside and the training hall, then the GoalMine football experience alongside it. Set aside about three hours for the pair of them. The ground is roughly forty minutes east of the tournament pitches.
Royal Antwerp — Bosuil stadium tour
The squad gets a guided walk through Royal Antwerp's ground on the edge of the city, about forty minutes from the pitches. The club runs the tour for schools and youth players, so a touring side is exactly who it is built for. It makes a good half day either side of a match day.
RSC Anderlecht — Lotto Park tour
An hour inside Anderlecht's ground on the Brussels side of the country, taking in the tunnel, the dressing room, the press box above the purple pitch and the trophy room on the way out. Tours run for groups of fifteen and up, so a single squad usually fits without joining anyone else. Pair it with a Brussels day and the coach only makes one trip.

Antwerp city and the MAS
Half a day in Antwerp, walking the Eilandje docks district and going up through the MAS museum, whose rooftop level is free and looks over the river and the whole city. School groups who book ahead get in free, so it costs the group little beyond the coach.
Antwerp Zoo
A city-centre zoo open since 1843, sat right beside Antwerp's main station and about forty minutes from the grounds. The old glasshouses and the aquarium make it a proper half day rather than a quick walk round.
Bobbejaanland theme park
The theme park is about twenty minutes from the grounds, which makes it the easiest full day on this list. Rollercoasters, family rides and food on site, and the coach is back well before the evening. Groups need booking a few days ahead, so tell us early if you want it.
Brussels day — Atomium and Mini-Europe
A full day in Brussels, about fifty minutes away, going up the Atomium's spheres for the view and then into Mini-Europe next door, where three hundred and fifty landmark models stand at a twenty-fifth of full size. Youth rates apply to groups of fifteen and over. It slots in neatly alongside the Anderlecht tour if you want both in one run.
Hidrodoe water science centre
A hands-on water science centre about fifteen minutes from the pitches, with roughly a hundred and fifty experiments to work through plus short films. It suits a half day when the weather turns, and it holds the younger squads as well as the older ones.
Leuven old town
Half an hour from the grounds, Leuven is a university city built round a Gothic town hall and a wide market square, with the student streets running off it. It is a walk-around afternoon rather than a ticketed attraction, and guided walks are available if you want one.
Zilvermeer lakeside day
A lakeside domain twenty minutes from the pitches, with a swimming beach and watersports the group can book — sailing, kayaking or surfing with an instructor. It is a good recovery afternoon between match days, and there is room for a squad to spread out.

THE FORMAT
HOW THE FOOTBALL
WORKS
Boys play from Under-8 up to Under-17, with Under-17 and Under-16 sharing one category. Girls have two categories, Under-13 and Under-16. The four oldest boys' groups and the girls' Under-16 play eleven-a-side; Under-12, Under-11 and the girls' Under-13 play eight-a-side; Under-10 is seven-a-side, and the two youngest groups play five-a-side.
Categories are set by birth year, counted from 1 January, rather than by school year. A UK squad picked from a September-to-August school year will usually have a few autumn birthdays that fall into the category above, so check the table against your squad list before you enter and talk to us if it splits the group.
Saturday is three group matches per team. On Sunday the pool winners go into a trophy bracket and everyone else into a consolation bracket, so every squad plays on both days. Eleven-a-side matches are thirty minutes; the small-sided matches are twenty.
